Starting to rekindle my lost passion of watersport activities again

Anyone here wind/surf? Bodyboard? Jetski? Wakeboard? Anything?

I grew up near Lake Tinaroo up here in the tropics, so spent a fair portion of my teens wakeboarding behind a family friends boat. A few years after that my best mate bought a cheap ski boat and most xmas's we would be out on the water every morning from 5.30-7.00 tricking it up on mirror smooth waters. I miss them days :( I havent touched my board and bindings for a couple of years now

We have a decent cable ski facility up here in Cairns but Ive yet to go and have a go, its something I keep reminding myself to get back into but work and life just get in the way etc.

PS. Im moving to the Sunny Coast next December so Im hoping to pick up a decent surfboard and spend some time in the surf; something we lack up here due to the reef

Went wakeboarding with Harley Clifford about a month ago. The guy is a freak, lands double tantrums with ease

    Nice

Always been interested in it, but having to wait for high winds would get annoying

..yeh. When I started I was keen as mustard, and wasted plenty of time on crap sessions or just waiting for the wind to pick up. Now I only go out when its pumping. Was out last night in 25-40 knot winds which was fun, swell was all blown-out and gusty as fark though.

Steep learning curve, but worth it when the conditions are right.

If the wind is blowing out to sea and you go out far, how the hell do you come back in?

Is windsurfing a steep learning curve?

Its always windy in the afternoons in SA, you can count on it.

The golden rule is; only go out in on-shore, or cross-on-shore, maybe slightly cross-off if you confident/experienced. The exception being if you have boat/jet ski support.

RE windsurfing - dunno, not tried it. If I were to guess, I would say similar, but significantly less chance of injury. See below for kiting accidents:

WA & QLD have consistent sea breezed from early afternoon, which is ideal. I imagine SA is similar, or at least better than here in VIC, especially in summer. When the wind is on here, its usually cold, wet and miserable.

If you go with either, get at least 1 lesson to cover the safety side - especially important with kiting. all good fun though and usually kiters/windsurfers are a great bunch - less aggro/egos than surfing.
