Those deads are good man go well. Keep at them you will get some sticking points but with some hard grit you will get that magic 200 then the next milestone is the 5 plate. I was nearly at 6 plates but things have gone south due to injury. Give it your best.

I was coming in around 89kg. Not bad for 52 years old hehe and only 2 years training under the belt. I pulled that 250 the day after my 52nd birthday. I wanted it before my 52nd but was unable to do so by one day. All my lifts are with a belt but no straps only chalk. I think that adds more pressure to the lift. lol.

It is amazing how much pressure the body feels at this weight. It is pretty intense. Holding tight is pretty hard while trying to hold your breath to keep tight lol.

Definitely, I heard that when Eddie Hall pulled 500 he passed out after completeing the lift.

    Tuesday, 05/06/18
    week 1

    legs posterior chain core

    bb squat
    110kg, 5, 5, 4, 4, 3
    80kg, 2 x 8

    45 back ext
    20kg + blue band, 2 x 15

    ghr
    25kg, 2 x 15

    lat pulldown wide grip pronated
    55kg, 2 x 12

    standing cable abs
    45kg, 3 x 15

good workout didn't quite get all the reps on squat but was happy with how I went for my first go at 110.

got 15 for 3 sets on cable abs, will probably try to go 50 next week, feel like my core strength is getting pretty good.

    Thursday, 07/06/18

    week 1
    chest shoulders triceps

    db flat bench press
    37.5kg, 2 x 5
    35kg, 7

    db incline bench press
    30kg, 8, 7, 6

    seated lateral raise
    10kg, 2 x 20

    post delt raise
    7.5kg, 2 x 12

    skullcrusher hammer bar
    30kg, 2 x 10
    20kg, 2 x 12

good workout making improvements in lateral raise and post delt raise as well as triceps.

just keep plugging away at bench, not really looking at going really heavy with bench anyway so all in all pretty happy.

    week 1
    deadlift day

    deadlift
    150kg, 5, 5, 5, 3, 3

    bb row supinated
    55kg, 2 x 15

    bb shrug
    100kg, 2 x 15

really good workout, think I am reaping the benefit of free squatting as 150 moved surprisingly well for a first go.

Also I have been doing as many of my warm up reps as possible with a double overhand grip and this must be helping my grip because I did the first 2 sets of 5 without straps.

    all in all very happy.

    standing cable abs
    50kg, 5, 4
    45kg, 15, 10

squats going well. got my full reps today and felt strong and kept form well through almost every rep, probably go for 115 next week.

went for 50kg on cable abs but man the extra 5kg smashed me, really thought I would have got about 10 reps but was pushing it to get 5, oh well all in all still a really good workout.

    skullcrusher hammer bar
    32.5kg, 2 x 8

    tricep pushdown blue band

got an extra rep on the heavy bench sets so started well but kind of fizzled out after that.

triceps still getting stronger gradually increasing weight on skullcrushers.

Nice going mate. I like to alternate skullcrushers with standing behind the head tricep extensions (either db or rope). Find it's easier on the elbows and also isolates the triceps a bit more.

Thanks man, yeah I used to love overhead tri ext no other tri movement can give such a stretch in the triceps for me, I just can't do them anymore, for some reason the overhead movement just does not agree with my shoulder I end up with a painfull right shoulder after doing them every time without fail.

    deadlift day

    deadlift
    150kg, 1 x 5

    rdl
    55kg, 3 x 10

    bb shrug
    80kg, 3 x 15

fark me tweaked something in my back during the last couple of warm up reps.

the warm ups were going up so easy that I got a bit lazy and didn't freaking concentrate on keeping everything tight and right and I felt a tweak as I went up on about the 140kg mark, tried one set but quickly realized to continue would be stupid and just make things worse so I just did a few light sets of assistance movements.

getting ice on it straight away and hoping it doesn't turn out to bad, I think it's just minor but as I type this it is pretty sore.

So turns out it wasn't minor at all, by Monday morning I could barely walk.

Went to a physio on Wednesday and his opinion was eith a tear in my hip flexors or could be I've blown a disc in my back, either way I'm definitely off training for a while.

This morning I had an ultra sound and a ct scan and I'm seeing the doc for the results this afternoon.

Pretty bloody depressing, hopefully I will at least be able to do some upper body work soon but I reckon deads/squats are probably out of the question for at least a few weeks if not longer.

    Official verdict.

    Herniated disc at l3.

Freaking devastated, anybody have any experience with this sort of injury?

The doc said I can forget about lifting heavy ever again, said I would still be able to do upper body work once I can move freely enough which should probably be a couple of weeks, looking at much longer than that before doing lower body/lower back work.

I would probably be crying if I wasn't numb from oxy's and Valium.

Fuck man :( Not sure what to say, other than that the docs are often wrong and way too conservative. You've overcome so many obstacles simply by just being in the gym, and inspired me immensely.

There's no sugarcoating it though - I'd also be shattered if I got shit news like this. You're allowed to cry and feel sorry for yourself, and noone will think you're a pussy.

Ah man that truly sucks. So sorry to hear that is the outcome. Look after your back man and I hope it gets better to at least allow some form of training. Keep positive and you will make a comeback. Time to get your chest work in order me thinks!

Fuck man! That fucking sucks! Like @Eidolon said doctors can be very conservative and will just write off shit because they think it's what's best. I've never been in this situation so I can't really give advice, but I follow a bloke called Layne Norton on social media who has gone through the same (or something very similar).

    https://www.biolayne.com/media/videos/video-log/injury-update-mri-results-plans-now/

Not sure if it's exactly the same but seems like it. He's one of those guys that just does not give up, and I saw him squatting a couple days a go on Instagram. It was only like 100kg for sets of 1 but man if he has gotten back into it then surely there is a way. I don't want to give you false hope but don't give up, just do what you can do for now and take it day by day. Remember this is a lifestyle, you've got the rest of your life to figure out what you can and can't do.

Oh and glad you received the God of Rage bro, sounds like you're going to need a good pre workout haha! Was my pleasure helping you out by sending it.
