I was originally just using my runners in the gym which seemed fine but they were effecting my squats so I went and bought some Nano's. My Reebok nano 4's made a big difference to my squat and were just better for general stuff in the gym too. I now just use my runners for running only but Im also about to get some specific lifting shoes for squatting. Friends have used both Adidas and Reebok lifting shoes and say they prefer the Adidas so that is the way I am going. I have heard good things about Inov8's but have never used them and think they have to be bought online.

There are other brands specifically for lifters but I have read that if you buy the high top style shoes it effects your ankle flexibility. If you like the barefoot lifting so you have more feeling and lest cushion you could always try the monkey feet style shoes.

Here are a couple of articles and reveiws specifically on lifting shoes.

Cheers TheSpud for the links. Yeh, I moved away from runners a while back. I've got flat feet and use orthotics. I find the orthotics are unable to support the arch of my foot if used in a soft soled shoe while lifting (surprise suprise).

Got some high top Nikes at the moment which have been good. My ankle mobility maxes out before I get any real interference from the shoe cuff.

StrungOut you get any hip niggles with plates under your heels?

HugoMonster nah mate, mine have been solid. Just using some standard 2.5kg plates I have at home that are relatively flat plates, no little lips in them etc. Seems to do the job, but then again I don't squat fuck all weight

I have a shoe collection that imelda marcos would be proud of.

My advice...don't buy "lift" shoes, address your mobility issues rather than ignore them or work around them. Squat and deadlift in something that is fairly flat like chucks or orions...or even indoor soccer shoes (my favs). Nike also do some good training shoes and they look pretty good too...loving the ones I just bought.

I normally wear Jordans because I'm a baller shot caller like MRSA.

I was thinking of getting lifting shoes like Adidas Power Perfect II but got to find a retailer to try them on.

sorry for the slow update fellas, been a busy week.

Ordered some ryderwears and some otomix in the end. Otomix were hard to get hold of in Oz, so ended up ordering through a UK company: http://www.bodybuildingkit.com

You don't pay the vat (gst) so offsets the P&P.

Ryderwear's arrived before I got my card back in my wallet so was awesome service!

First impressions of the Ryderwears was awesome. Would say they com in a fraction small, but the padding round the ankle is fairly soft so think they will bed-in perfect. really comfy - like slippers and the super thin sole feel really stable on squats and heavy presses. Style would be 8/10, quality 8/10, and comfort 9/10.

Otomix arrived after about a week and look amazing! Ordered the same size as ryderwear but come in a fraction longer (I'd say on-size). Similar thin hard sole as the ryderwear, maybe a fraction thinner, but insanely comfortable! Felt great to train in - like functional slippers. I'd say these are as close to a 10/10 you could get across the board. Super happy with them, tho they cost that little bit more (~$190 AUD).

Super happy with both though the otomix are sooo dam comfy and look amazing to boot! Keep them on all evening! Lol.

Cheers for the advices folks, and thanks NaturalLoco for a solid recommendation!

I'm about to order some Reebok lift 2 shoes from their Web page. The advantage for me is I wear Reebok Nano's so I already know what size Reebok's fit me. Reebok also have 25% off over Easter
