I have been a regular gym goer for many years and I have a long period where I haven't really paid much attention to the bodybuilding scene. But I've been recently doing searches on the topic of "bodybuilding" on Youtube and because of the site's 'algorithms' a lot suggested videos for me to watch show interviews from professional bodybuilders/influencers past and present having really very open and detailed conversations about their steroid use.

Have I missed something here? Steroid use used to be on the down low where back then it was only a few people like Arnold who perhaps got caught using them, admitting to using them and even regretting it by telling people to stay away from these drugs. And some people would even hide in the shadows and have their voices masked when discussing their use of gear on TV docos and the like.

Just wondering what has caused this shift and people's attitudes and whether this will make way to reduce the demonisation of PIEDs and perhaps legitimise their use in the future. (Wouldn't they arrested for publicly admitting their use of illegal substances?)

Wouldn't get arested for just saying, hard evidence is needed. Like walking around saying 'im a killer': would need a body or a direct link to a crime etc for investigating. Lots of people say stuff. Easy to deny.

But yes, the openness does seem more mainstream these days without the stigma it once had. I guess people have a different mindset about it.
Its probably helped by the US. Hormone replacement is quite a big mainstream thing there with males and females. This would take the edge of the 'roid-head' vibe of old i guess

This does seem to be the way things are going at the moment with substance use in general, although the current hysteria around the opioid issue in the USA is starting to go in an unhelpfull direction.
The fact is that these substances are out there and people are going to use them, it is better to be open and honest about it and make harm minimization the approach.

Obviously ped's are a different thing to recreational substances but in my opinion they should be treated the same way when it comes to dealing with peoples use of them.

The zero tolerance approach has been tried and it failed miserably and it will continue to do so, I think as the generation of pollies that are currently in power move on and the next generation takes their place a lot of things are going to change, hopefully for the better.

    I find this topic interesting.

Locations around the world have varying levels of law depending on use of PED's. Now, I looked into a few movies and the actors transformation and it then came to light there was with out a shadow of a doubt that they were on some form of these.

    So in a hypothetical scenario.

Say Govt regulated the use etc, what checks and balances would be required? Also would it see commercially made and quality controlled items?

The flip side and this is where the topic becomes i guess frustrating to a degree (and in general context).

The female pill and some others such as Depo Provera are easily attainable for females and now a topic which seems to be had a lot, is hormone therapy for transitioning persons. Yes they go through a lot of hoops but seems that it is far more attainable for a chick wanting to have the male attributes.

But for men, and the studies have shown in published articles many cited that the use of Test helps with many things as we age as our test levels decline.

When it comes to sport regulated. Level playing field etc.

Again just food for thought around the OP.

Generation after generation, people will want to find ways of living longer and maintain their way of life. And the advancement of science in medicine and technology will catch up with this. It's just human nature for us not to lose the everyday things we do as we get older.

There will be a shift someday of society's attitudes and some of these people will be running the world to make sure that this happens.
