The danger of supplements

    Triple j ran a story today on the hack program about the apparent dangers of using bodybuilding supplements.

    There was an unfortunate tragedy back in June when Meegan Hefford died as a result of using to much protein, the fact is that she had a genetic condition called urea cycle disorder that meant her body was unable to handle the protein she was taking and ammonia built up in her blood leading to her death.

    This is obviously a rare circumstance and the vast majority can and do use supplements without any problems, however that hasn't stopped this fear mongering story.
    I wonder how much more fear mongering is to come.

    I refuse to believe a damn thing printed in the media anymore.
    The last 20 years coffee has gone from being really good for you, to really bad for you, to fighting cancer, to causing cancer etc etc

    Word. So if she had 2-3 extra chicken breasts she would've diet too? Tragic when the media uses misfortune to sell ad space.

    so she didn't pass because of supplements... she passed because of her genetic health condition..
