    Hi all,
Before I got injured I've always had trouble gaining weight. I was injured and out of the game for 3 months and lost about a kilo.

I intend to maintain my current body weight before bulking until I reach my fitness levels where I was before my injury...But I was wondering because I always eat clean but I feel like I can't get enough calories on a clean diet, my metabolism is very fast and I don't wish to eat like a there's no tomorrow. Would adding some junk to my diet be worth a try?

How many calories are you having a day? What foods are you typically eating?

You can eat clean and gain weight just have to keep is simple. I to was really skinny and had trouble gaining mass sitting around 68kg at 19. Just started eating more regularly and trying to have a 4-5th portion of food and I don't mean eating until I exploded but rather then the 3 larger meals broke it down to 4-5 meals with a snack or two aswell if I felt peckish. 24 now and weighing 88kg not all muscle but no a lot of bf. mostly floating around the stubborn areas. But as venk said need more detail in what you are eating and roughly the amount of calories that are being consumed because although your eating you could be below 2000 calories which is below maintenance which is definitely not going to help your body maintain.

say you are eating 3-4 clean meals a day, just add a 5-6 in the mix and see how your body reacts to the extra calories. you will still be eating healthy you'll just be consuming more calories.

Im currently 81kg and workout 3-4 times a week. I usually eat rolled oats, greek yogurt, tuna, fruit, red meats, eggs, chicken, brown rice and veggies. I was around 2500 cals for maintenance.
Thanks for all the replies btw

up it to 3000 and add in two more meals. try to work out macros to keep it on track. any app will help you (myfitnesspal is good), and log everything making sure your splits are right.

add in some sweet potatoes (awesome sliced and cooked on the bbq), avo, almonds, which are calorie dense.

Yeah I used to always struggle with that, i know its wrong, but add some junk food. Workout maybe 3 times a week with compound movements only no isolation. try to go with 6-8 rep range, 3 sets per muscle or even 2 exercises for small 3 for larger muscles. No Cardio. just take your dog for a walk.

Add creatine. If you add the junk ensure you drink lots of water. Milk and almonds will be your friend. Check your bloods every 3 months for cholesterol, ldl and hdl. ( you should be ok as you have a faster metabolism) you may poop alot but.

Don't go to clean you will look tiny and ripped or just tiny. Sleep a lot , take your stress out and check the mirror after breakfast.

Don't worry about the scale go with the mirror. If your looking better, to your liking keep going.

If you drink stick to 2-3 beers on the weekend but ensure that you keep your meals at no less then 4 meals hopefully at 6 even if their small meals.

Carbs and Protein is your staple. Veggie drink for your fibre and metamucil.

don't do high volume unless you've done couplme months of this regime. Higher volumes of 12-10 only when you need to show yourself off with a cleaner diet but i couldn't hold it longer then 2 weeks. Glutamine helps for longer. Metabolism kicks in and i started shrinking. Add a test booster and more protein / meats in your diet at this stage to harden up. hopefully by then she falls in love with you, then go back to compounds.

im not disputing your advice here but 3000 cals is not a lot of food and i don't think its necessary to add junk food at this stage in order to up the calories.

Yup thats fair. I only suggested junk because i had a very fast metabolism. Adding in some junk like takeaway im refering to made my body look more bulkier and the muscles larger like a strongmans physique.no gut still solid waist. The scale wouldnt change but in the mirror it made a big positive difference. Too much junk adds the fat on the lower abs, and softens the muscles not solid ,covers the stratiations when your under the light ,it makes you feel lazy n not enough nutrients to lift. Sleep was essential.
When i up the calories all i did was spend more time in the toilet its just the metabolism. Different foods work with different bodies mine was milk n almonds for bulk and tuna /turkey for aesthetics .Now in my thirties its not as hard , i know what foods for what regime and my cholesterol variables change so once a week is fine.

Its only what ive learnt over the years with a fast metabolism and genetics of a broom stick in my 20s. Point being despite what the internet says it takes yeaaars to develop each muscle and your body grows at its own pace.

    yeah i get it

you're a big bloke though ;) and you've been lifting consistently for a long time, and also long enough to know your body well. i dont think this applies to OP. Anyway, OP has a fast metabolism too and he'll do whatever he wants in the end :p
